Union Olimpija travels to Russia09.11.2009

Basketball players of Union Olimpija returned from Železnik this morning where they won for the first time in NLB League. Tomorrow afternoon Union Olimpija is flying to Moscow to face Russian powerhouse CSKA Moscow in Euroleague. CSKA is not in shape yet and they can not afford to lose this game against Union Olimpija. Before the game head coach Jure Zdovc and Sani Bečirović were present at the press conference where they made the following statements.

Jure Zdovc, head coach of Union Olimpija: "Both teams opened their Euroleague seasons with loses and that's why we need victory. We know that CSKA will do everything to win the game. They are the absolute favourites in this game but we will not give up. At the moment we are dealing with our problems more than with preparation for this game. We already know them  from their game with Maroussi when we were preparing for Greeks. It is a fact that CSKA is not the same team as last year. They are playing more individually and their game discipline dropped. Our mission will be to play like a team in defense. Our main goal will be to stop their three main experienced players. They are maybe a little bit weaker on center position where they have only Sokolov and Kaun. Maybe we can see our chance here because our post players are playing better and better."

Sani Bečirović, player of Union Olimpija: "We expect a very difficult game but we are going to Russia in good mood. We have to play similar to our previous game in Adriatic League where we showed good defense in second part of the game. If we will be able to play similar defense against CSKA on Wednesday then we can be optimistic. We know that CSKA is not doing that well and we will try to use that in best way possible but on other hand it is still clear that Russian superstars are the favourites in this game."
