Youth teams organisation

The foundations for success in basketball are the junior teams. The Junior team is an important transition point from junior to senior competitions. Olimpija's teams of all age categories (children's, cadets, juniors) are ranked among the very best in Slovenian basketball. Every year, a basketball school is organized for younger players, with over 200 young players enrolled. The main objective of the selection and training of these youngsters is to develop quality players for the needs of the club's first team. The junior team of Union Olimpija plays in the third Slovenian Basketball League. In the past decade, the junior teams has been coached by Zmago Sagadin, Ladivoj Gorjan, Zoran Martič, Neven Spahija, Memi Bečirovič, Tone Corel, Mladen Starčević, Dušan Hauptman, Aleš Miklič and Vojko Herksel. At this moment the coach incharge of junior team is Luka Bassin.

Union Olimpija Basketball school

The Union Olimpija Basketball School has been organized for several years within the scope of the Union Olimpija. The goals of the Union Olimpija Basketball School are to attract as many youngsters as possible, to motivate them to start playing basketball and to enable them to fulfill their sports and life's dreams. The Union Olimpija Basketball School operates in 4 elementary schools throughout Ljubljana and its outskirts, as well as at the Hala Tivoli Arena, which also serves as its headquarters. Over 130 players, aged 8-15, are enrolled in the basketball school each year. They are divided into several groups according to age, psychomotor and physical abilities. Practices take place twice a week under the expert supervision of younger coaches, mainly students of the Faculty of Sports of the University in Ljubljana. This ensures successful work and progress, which is essential for the young players' breakthrough towards top-level performers. Such progress demands a maximum number of games played; for this reason, the Basketball School organizes competitions among our and other schools throughout the year. Part of the Union Olimpija Basketball School's activities also include a summer basketball camp at the seaside and participation in international basketball tournaments.
