Tivoli Arena

Small arena - capacity: 4050 seats
Big arena - capacity: 5500 seats

Last year the building of Hala Tivoli was celebrating its 45th anniversary. They started building it in November 1963 and finished it in March 1965, which presents a unique record because of extremely hard working conditions in winter months, often in bad weather conditions in a demanding water terrain. It has been estimated that, from its opening in April 1965 until the end of 1999, approximately 20 million spectators and participants of sports, cultural and other performances have visited it. The history of great performances in the Hala Tivoli started with a magnificent spectacle as befits such an important building: its first guest was the famous American jazz musician Louis Daniel Armstrong who at the time attracted a huge audience of 6.000 people. The Little Hall, as it is today, was finished in 1995, and has 4050 seats. In September 2000, renovations of the large Ice hall were completed, enabling basketball games to be staged in the hall. The renovated hall has a capacity of 6000 seats. The record number of 8.000 fans was reached in 1986 with the British group Dire Straits. The building of Hala Tivoli is situated in the town centre, on the fringes of the park Tivoli. It has a favourable location since it is 15-minutes walking distance away from the majority of important city sites (old part of the town, main railway and bus station, etc.) In 35 years, many world championships have taken place in the Tivoli arena: table tennis in 1965; ice-hockey Group A in 1966; ice-hockey Group B in 1969; basketball, figure skating and gymnastics in 1970; ice-hockey Group B in 1974; weight lifting in 1982; bowling in 1984; ice-hockey Group B in 1991; ice-hockey Group C in 1993; ice-hockey Group B in 1998. Besides the above-mentioned Louis Armstrong, many other famous names from the music world have been performing in Hala Tivoli hall: B.B. King, The Queen, Tina Turner, Spandau Balet, Dire Straits, The Dubliners, Iggy Pop, Eros Ramazzoti, David Bowie, Nirvana, Joe Cocker, Bob Dylan, ect.
