Stožice Arena

Arena capacity: 12500 seats

After decades of waiting, years of talks and two years of construction, the door of new modern Stožice Arena finally opened in August of 2010.

Unbelievable arena, true sports beauty was officially opened on August 10th when basketball national teams of Slovenia and Spain played an exhibition game. After that, a spectacular boxing match in a sold-out arena took place, and from that date on, numerous concerts of renowned musicians such as Leonard Cohen, Joe Cocker, Jose Carreras, David Guetta and others, also took place.

Basketball club Union Olimpija moved its offices and whole basketball system from legendary Tivoli Arena, where basically whole Slovenian basketball legacy was written, to ŠRC Stožice. The complete move took place during 2010/2011 season. Union Olimpija is not alone in the arena, as also women handball club Krim moved there, soon after.

Our club started playing basketball games in Vurnik Arena in Tabor; from 1951 on we played on basketball court right under the Cekin Castle. In 1954 the sports court was renovated, and in 1965 Olimpija moved to legendary Tivoli Arena, where the club stayed until the municipality decided to build new Stožice Arena.

Basketball players of Union Olimpija played its first game in Stožice Arena on October 9th, while Euroleague debut in the new arena took place on October 20th, when Union Olimpija beat Turkish powerhouse Efes Pilsen after two overtimes in last minutes of the game. The new era of the club has begun.
